Visual Artist from Donegal, based in Belfast
27/4/2021 0 Comments BiographyI’m a Donegal artist, based in Belfast. Since completing my BA in Fine Art at Ulster University, I’ve joined the MFA to further my career as an artist. My primary medium is paint, however recently I’ve been also creating text-based artworks. I’ve been writing short poems for years and had kept these quite private up until now. Often these text-based artworks or poems refer to nature and become a way for me to express something that’s much more difficult to communicate through image-based artworks. I am interested in the performative aspect to painting and how emotional states translate viscerally from body to surface. My own experiences with physical health and traumatic experience have been an opening into this area of enquiry within my practice. The paintings and text-based artworks I create also query human-centric ideas of perception, self and the “other”. A holistic return to the natural is indicated in some of my most recent works. Nature has always been something of great importance to me. I’ve always felt that there’s healing or wisdom to be found within it; I try to holistically incorporate it into my life and art in so far as possible.
